The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History is the nation’s only congressionally chartered museum it its field. Originally known as the National Atomic Museum, it was established in 1969 as an intriguing place to learn the story of the Atomic Age, from early research of nuclear development through today’s peaceful uses of nuclear technology. In addition, the 30,000-square-foot facility contains displays on the Manhattan Project and Trinity Site, Nuclear Medicine, Energy Encounters, Pioneers of Science, and much more.
The nine-acre outdoor Heritage Park is one of the most popular attractions of the museum and has planes, rockets, missiles, cannons, a nuclear sub sail, and other historical artifacts on display. Open daily from 9 am-5 pm.
