Established in 1903, the New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (NMSBVI) has provided residential, academic, support, and outreach services to the blind and visually impaired children of New Mexico. Today, it also serves blind children with multiple disabilities, including deafness.
The school maintains two campuses: a residential campus located in Alamogordo which serves children in grades K – 12 and an Early Childhood Program (ECP) pre-school (ages 2.5-K) in Albuquerque. The Albuquerque campus is also home to an Outreach Program which runs low vision clinics throughout the state, and an Infant/Toddler Program which provides family support and services to blind and visually impaired children from birth through age three years. NMSBVI served over 2000 New Mexican families and children during the 2010 calendar year.
